As an artist and Transformational Wellness Coach I have the unique opportunity to provide creative workshops for small groups and work teams. Creating in a group format cultivates connection and collaboration. For many people painting and other creative projects are outside their comfort zone, at JB Inspired Living I implement a functional approach to wellness and living. Meaning, we work together to master the Art of Flourishing through Transformational Wellness; Inspiring health and wholeness in all areas of life. All systems of the body...mental, emotional, physical and spiritual, function in tandem with one another. Not one part of our wellbeing is isolated. Creating provides many health benefits to the mind, body and soul.
Just to name a few, here are my top five benefits!
1. Art reduces stress and anxiety. Research shows that as you engage in any art, the pleasure centers in your brain light up cultivating a feeling of relaxation. When someone focuses intentionally on what they are creating the worries of the day slip away and the person is able to be more present.
2. Helps in achieving a flow state. When I am teaching my workshops and classes I absolutely love to watch when this shift happens in someone. Slipping into moments of mindfulness and flow and level of concentration creates a space for not thinking about anything else. This flow state, is a component to a happy life according to psychologists.
3. Art improves connections in the brain. Creating art takes focus and hand-eye coordination. Any activity where you are working that diligently coordinating the brain with movement creates connections in the brain.
And I am all about brain health!!
4. Creative activates reward centers in the brain. Research shows the act of creating something out of nothing is rewarding, even if you aren’t particularly talented. Both artists and average joe's experience the same reward center activation while making art. In my workshops I create an environment for success where people leave with a creation they are proud of!
5. Art fosters social connections. Either taking an art class or sharing your completed work with others, creating art is a fantastic avenue for connecting with other people.
